In loving memory of Benjamin Manuel Rivera

My name is Taylor Leavens, I’m the sister of Ben’s partner and aunt to his two beautiful children.

On February 23rd, 2024 at 11:30pm an angel was received in Heaven and we lost Benjamin Manuel Rivera. A beloved Father, Partner, Son, Brother, and Friend.

On February 15th, 2024 around 8pm, Ben was riding his bike from his house to we believe his mothers and on the way to his mothers he slipped or lost control and fell off the bike and hit his head. A by stander rushed to Bens side and flagged for more help as Ben went unconscious and into cardiac arrest. This other woman was able to pull over and start CPR on Ben. Paramedics were called and took over once arrived bringing him to Victoria Hospital ICU. They were able to start his heart after 5 more rounds of CPR but were worried about what damage his brain endured. Ben was put into a self induced coma to help stop any damage to his brain as he lost a lot of oxygen to the brain.

After a couple days and some neurological testing they reduced his sedation, hoping he’d eventually wake up. Ben’s body started to seize to any stimulation which was more traumatizing to his injury.. that’s when we learned Ben was brain dead and his brain was so damaged it was sending electric charges through out his body.

He went through many testing; MRI, CT, ULTRASOUND, X-RAY, EEG, ECG. Unfortunately many of those tests came back with negative results, confirming that Ben was brain dead.

After being in the hospital for 4 days they noticed his kidneys were starting to fail, resulting with them having to start dialysis. Once they started dialysis they needed to wait to see if that was helping his kidneys and again, another procedure failed. After the doctors called a family meeting and confirming the worst news possible, it was time to say the hardest goodbye to our beautiful Benjamin❤️

Unfortunately with this unexpected tragedy, Ben didn’t have any life insurance which is making it hard on the family. As of now we’re trying to make funeral arrangements so we can lay our beautiful Ben peacefully.
