In Loving Memory of Benjamin Jakes
Dear Friends and Family,
This is for our friend Benjamin Jakes.
On the 1st February 2022, our whole world changed. Ben tragically took his own life in a battle with his mental health. The devastation that followed has been unimaginable.
Ben leaves behind a wife, Cecilia & a beautiful little girl called Alva. He has also left behind family and friends who will love and remember him forever.
Ben Jakes was one of those people that doesn't come along very often; he was a pure human being with a lot of love to give. From the moment I met Ben 15 years ago i can honestly say ive loved him since that day, a friend that would always go above and beyond for me. He was one of the most amazing individuals I have had the pleasure of knowing. He had a personality that could light up a room. His notorious little chuckle and his funny antics. These are just some of the things that made him one of a kind.
It will always be difficult knowing that he felt the only option was to end his own life. This is why we wanted to raise money and raise awareness that there is always support and always a reason to live. Addressing the issue is the most important thing. We want anyone who feels like Ben did at his lowest to know that they can get through it.
‘Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under 35 in the UK. Every year many thousands more attempt or contemplate suicide, harm themselves or suffer alone, afraid to speak openly about how they are feeling’ Papyrus UK
The charity Papryus (Prevention of young suicide) are the chosen charity who provide help to anyone who has suicidal thoughts or anyone feeling low. They SUPPORT young people directly through a helpline; they ENGAGE within communities to combat suicide and INFLUENCE with national policies pushing for a significant contribution to the local and regional implementation of national suicide prevention strategies.
Our lives will never be the same, but we will keep Ben alive through his legacy. Please support us and donate to this charity as it is now close to our hearts! Ben's family have requested that rather than flowers, a donation to this worthy charity is made should you wish.
We will be planning some fundraising events after Ben is laid to rest; one thing we know is Ben loved to walk with Alva - a link to his Instagram page Travels with Alva is here - https://instagram.com/travelswith.alva?utm_medium=copy_link
Myself and his family are grateful for everyone who has already supported and anyone who will continue to support.
Thank you,
Louie
