My name is Katie Eyster, and Ben has been a close friend and "brother" of mine ever since I moved to St. Louis. We are raising funds to dedicate a memorial bench in honor of our dear friend, Ben Gerdes, at Creve Coeur Park—a place deeply connected to who he was and what he loved. Ben found his greatest peace outdoors, whether fishing, hunting, camping, or simply enjoying nature with friends and family. His presence brought laughter and joy wherever he went. He cracked jokes, brought along his beloved horse racing game, and was always ready for good old-fashioned fun outside. Everyone loved Ben because he loved everyone—welcoming all into his shenanigans and making sure no one was left out. An Eagle Scout, Ben completed a service project as a young man to build stairs at Creve Coeur Park, now the cement stairs connecting the playground to the lake, making this location especially meaningful. This memorial bench will be a place where family and friends can rest, enjoy the view, share stories, and remember Ben’s legacy of humor, loyalty, kindness, and love.
