In loving memory of Alfred S Montoya

My Papa was everything a Grandfather was supposed to be. He was so much more than just a Papa...he’s the reason my family was so close. When I think about my childhood home, I picture his home. Everyone knew “Papa’s/Freddy’s house”.
We filled the whole street with cars. Papa would barbecue, have his oldies blasting, family and friends would be in the pool, and we’d spend the entire day enjoying ourselves. We would race in the pool (nobody could beat him but we tried). I remember waking up to the smell of bacon and chorizo in the mornings, he taught us how to cook and drive. He would take us to the pumpkin patch, the movies, to Costco and Roma’s to get meat and cheese to make sandwiches together. We will never forget his laugh, his heart to hearts that left you both in tears, gardening with him, or just following him around the house.
There are soooo many memories.
During the last 2 months, I spent a lot of time with him. We would laugh, listen to oldies in my car on full blast, I would push him in his wheelchair, brush his hair, hold his hand, and we ended everyday arguing about who was paying for dinner or our Jamba Juice. He would try to hand me money and I’d refuse, so he’d hide it in my car. I would hide it in his wheelchair, or slide it back in his pocket, and he’d say, “I know you put that money back. You better go get it”.
He was selfless, he donated to every single charity, he tried to help the community, he was a father figure to MANY, he taught us all how to swim, and his home was available to anyone in need.
I hold onto all those good memories. I know he’s at peace. A month ago, he said, “I’m just so happy to see my family take care of me.” I told him that he made us that way. All the years and love he put into raising us as good people came back in good karma. As he was being admitted to the hospital, he told us how tired he was. I know he was at peace during his transition. He trusted his kids, he expressed his wishes, we knew what type of person he was. I know he was proud of the way his kids and family came together for him. He wore that proud smile in so many pictures. Alfred Montoya loved his kids and family soooo much and we loved him.
In the past few days, I've heard so many stories that tell what kind of man Freddy was. He was a son, brother, dad, grandfather, friend and teacher. No matter what his title was, he wore it proud and humbly.
Any support received would be greatly appreciated. Donations will be used to cover funeral expenses. My papa was a beautiful person inside and out and we'd like to lay him to rest in a way that would reflect that. We were all so blessed to have him in our lives.
Thank you everyone for all of the phone calls, flowers, kind words, memories and support during this very difficult time. We all greatly appreciate it.
