On the morning of March 4, 2019 countless many who knew Chelsea Gould Tavana awoke to the shocking news of her passing.
In her father's seeking words, "There are no words to express the depth of our sorrow. Our beautiful, sweet daughter Chelsea Gould Tavana passed away in her sleep. She was so full of goodness, love, and compassion for all. She leaves behind her precious infant daughter (Elianna), her husband (Devin) that we adore, and a giant hole in our family.
Chelsea was amazing. In her short life, she suffered through open heart surgery, several other heart surgeries, and other surgeries. She lived in pain nearly every day. Despite the challenges, she helped organize and went on three humanitarian missions, served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, graduated from Dixie University and Brigham Young University, met and married Devin Tavana, the love of her life, gave birth to the joy of her life, and had countless friends.
She suffered and endured her challenges and trials with dignity and grace – but now she is free from the pain of her tired body. Her passing was unexpected, but of natural causes of mortality. Our family is at a loss of words, a loss of a bright light, and a loss of joy. All who knew her love her, admire her, and adore her. I know, because of our Savior, she will rise again, and we know we will see her and be with her again. While that is comforting, the pain of her loss will remain in this life."
Those fortunate enough to have been touched by Chelsea's unwavering faith in that which is most beautiful in this world, her love of family, her daughter, her husband, her friends, and everyone she came in contact with we find ourselves without words sufficient to express the mourning shared with her family at this time. A completely unexpected tragedy, the weight of the responsibility that her family, and particularly her devoted husband, Devin, and their daughter, Elianna, will bear without her presence in their lives has not even begun to sink in.
For all family, friends, and anyone looking to make a difference who has been touched by Chelsea's precious memory, contagious smile, her relentless optimism, and devotion to her family and faith there is no amount of money that can alter the tragedy of her unexpected passing. From a distance looking in, I imagine her one wish would be to know that her husband, daughter and family could feel her love and be blessed in a way to navigate their sorrow without the financial burden that comes with this loss. Giving her family the opportunity to rest their hearts and mind by softening the blow of recent events and coming up with the unexpected expenses both for the funeral and care for her infant daughter might be one of the choicest acts of loving kindness we can offer her family at this time.
