William "Winn" Alley married my mother, Sandy, when I was only 7 years old, and proceeded to turn everything I had known upside down.
We drove my poor mother crazy (as well as each other) with our semi-constant bickering and dramatics. It wasn't an easy adjustment to suddenly become the father of an ill-tempered only child, dealing with no longer being her mothers sole recipient of attention, after all.
Despite our rocky start, he loved my mother and he loved me, and soon the 3 of us became 4, then 5,6 and finally 7. Our family was large, loud, and constantly on each others nerves, but there was always love.
Winn was so many things to so many people in his life...
He was a teacher, a student,a friend, a counselor, a brother, a son...
It feels like he was practically friends with the entire state of Texas, where he spent years of his life as a pastor in many different churches.
He was a father to 5 extremely outspoken and vastly different children, all of whom made him crazy and all of whom he made crazy, but still there was always love.
He was a husband to a wonderful, headstrong woman for 27 years and even if it wasn't always easy or perfect or "fairy tale ending", there was still always love.
He was a grandfather to my two little boys who he adored with all his heart and soul, and mine is breaking knowing they had such little time to know him.
He touched the lives of so many, many people every single day of his 68 years in this world. His heart was so big and so full, all anyone had to do was ask and he would do anything in his power to help, in whatever way he could.
On July 12th, 2020, this amazing, sometimes frustrating, but always loving man passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, leaving our family unprepared for the whirlwind of grief that follows.
I've started this gofundme to hopefully help our mother cover the costs of funeral, memorial and hidden expenses, all of which none of us were ready for.
Any donation given will be a blessing to our family, but even if you are unable to do so please keep our family in your thoughts.
Hug your loved ones a little tighter and tell them you love them a little more often, time truly is precious and not guaranteed.
