Our dear friend , Victor Schoonover, 48, is currently in hospice care after a challenging two-year journey with stage 4 colon cancer that spread to his liver. From the moment of diagnosis, Victor has faced countless rounds of chemotherapy, multiple hospital stays, and surgery—all with remarkable courage and hope.
The costs of ongoing medical care have taken a serious toll. A recent hospital stay at UIC alone resulted in a $3,000 copay. As Victor receives hospice care at his mother’s home in South Beloit, Jen Wilz, his wife, continues to work in Rockford to support their family. Henry, their son, attends school here in Rockford too.
This means long commutes, added fuel costs, and little time to prepare meals—all while coping with the emotional weight of caring for their husband and father.
Victor, along Jen, and Henry, have always been an active part of our local community. Whether it’s supporting school events in RPS 205, volunteering, or lending a hand to friends and neighbors, this family has always shown up for others. Now, it’s our turn to show up for them.
We are asking our community to come together and lift up the Schoonover-Wilz family during this incredibly difficult time.
Any monetary donation is not too small. Jen will also welcome gas cards and restaurant cards.
Thank you so much!
