My name is Katie Steigerwald, and Sophie Steigerwald is my younger sister. Sophie suddenly and tragically passed away in an accident on August 13, 2025, at the young age of 20 years old. I am here to share Sophie's story and to carry on the legacy that she brought into this world.

Sophie was deeply loved by many, including our parents, Jonathan and Anne, aunts, uncles, cousins, and her dear friends. Sophie loved many too. She was the once-in-a-lifetime type of person. She cared about those around her deeply, sharing her kindness and love with close friends and strangers. Sophie would take anyone under her wing. She was compassionate, generous, thoughtful, and warm. Sophie wanted to spread her kindness and positivity in every way she possibly could, whether it was spending quality time with her friends or family, or helping a random stranger. Sophie proudly wore her heart on her sleeve every day, sharing her fun-loving spirit with anyone she crossed paths with.

One of Sophie's favorite hobbies was to ski. She loved to hit the mountain with her friends any chance she could get. She fell in love with the hobby during COVID, and since then it was her passion. Sophie loved to go on adventures in the outdoors with her friends. She was always looking for a good time in life. She was happy, fun to be around, loving, and made people feel good. The lives she touched will never be the same without her here.

It is my mission to carry Sophie's story and legacy on for the rest of my life. In honor of Sophie, my family and I are creating a scholarship for students attending Montana State University, where Sophie started her college years. Anyone who was touched by Sophie and is able to contribute is welcome to make a donation here. All of the money will go to the scholarship fund through Montana State University.

We will continue to carry on Sophie's acts of kindness and generosity for the rest of our lives. She is deeply missed by her loved ones. Sophie touched many lives in ways that are irreplaceable. My goal is to carry her spirit on in as many ways as I can.
