Ireland United Methodist Church - A little white church on the hill.

To many, this church may not look like much. But to those who attend, it’s a safety net, a lifeline — a family.

In 2014, fewer than five youth attended church regularly. Today, we have around twenty-five every Sunday. So what makes Ireland UMC special? Why are we thriving, expanding, and outgrowing our space?

That’s an easy question to answer: it’s the people.

Maybe I feel that way because I’m part of a fourth generation in this church, and my niece and nephews represent the fifth. Maybe it’s because many of the faces beside me in the pews are family. But I believe it’s more than that.

It’s the way we show up.

We don’t walk away when times get hard — when people are sick, struggling, or grieving. We show up. We make meals for the sick, provide funeral dinners for the families of those we’ve lost, and stand beside one another through it all. I’ve watched our church thrive — even during parking lot services.

So how do we continue to grow?

We keep showing up.

We invite others to join us. We encourage our children to bring friends to every event. We challenge them to share their faith. And the outside world notices.

We post, we share, we walk in parades, we feed local sports teams. Our focus remains on the future — our youth.

We are not a quiet church. Sundays in Ireland are loud — filled with laughter, singing, and yes, sometimes crying (a lot of crying, actually). But that’s okay, because a church filled with children is a church filled with life.

They are our future — the future of our church and our world.

Now is the time to help shape them into adults who will continue to show up.
