On Monday, May 16, 2022, our father, Tong Xay Lee, passed away after a lengthy stay in the hospital – the result of many years of health issues. And although our family is heartbroken and grieving right now, the enormous love and support that we have received from so many is comforting. Thank you.
Our dad was a proud, brave and giving man throughout his entire life. So, as we prepare to celebrate his life and legacy, we want to honor one of his last wishes: to give him a traditional Hmong funeral, a cornerstone of the Hmong faith and culture.
Tragedy befell our family again when twenty four days later on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, our mother, Chao Xiong Lee, also passed away. She passed of natural causes but we believe it was due to a broken heart after the loss of our her lifetime partner, our father.
Our mom was fiercely devoted to her husband and family. She protected and raised her young family alone when our father was conscripted into the in Laos Auto Defense de Choc (ADC) as an instructor during the middle of the Vietnam War from 1965 – 1967, and continued to raise her children full-time into adulthood after immigrating to the US. She entered the workforce for a short period of time but her fierce commitment to family compelled her to return to the home in order to provide child care for her grandchildren.
Because of the expense of the services, our family is asking for financial support. We will be eternally grateful (and our parents would be, too) for any contribution toward the funerals. Although each of them will carry their own pecuniary challenges, we decided to combine the crowd-funding request instead of hosting two separate ones to avoid any confusion.
We understand that GoFundMe may not be the preferred option for all. There are both PayPal and Venmo options as an alternative.
