In Honor of Nancy Soto

Nancy Soto was born Sept 17, 1991 in Fresno, California. She was a daughter, sister, and friend, but most importantly, she was a beautiful soul who had a heart for her family, her church, for souls, but above all else, for God.

Being the eldest, she always looked out for her three younger siblings: Elisabeth, Cristal and Jenny. To them, she was a steady source of strength and guidance, always encouraging them to do better and believe in themselves.

In her church, she kept the same love and passion, being a driving force to the establishment of a Bus Outreach ministry, a program that reaches out to low-income children and parents in neighboring communities and building relationships with them while also bringing them to Sunday school.

However, bus ministry was not all she became involved in. She found great joy in teaching Sunday School, as she loved working with children and teaching them what she knew and loved about Jesus. She also sang in the church choir and praise team since she was passionate about using her voice to glorify God.

Her passion for music and Jesus eventually led her to pursue an education at Indiana Bible College, where she learned how to compose music and train her voice, all the while volunteering in the nearby nursing home, participating in community outreach, and singing in the Indiana Bible College choir.

Not only to her friends, but to anyone who came in contact with her, she was an inspiration. She had the ability to connect with anyone, no matter how different they were from her or what their story was. She simply met them where they were at and listened to them, allowing people to feel loved and cared for. Her unique quality of connecting with others allowed people to believe in themselves and brought out the best in them.

Along with her passion for people, she had a passion for learning. In May 21, 2017, Nancy graduated with honors at CSU Long Beach with a Bachelors in Geography in her pursuit of architecture. Her dream was to design and build churches; but meanwhile she was studying how to build physical churches, she was building relationships with people and introducing them to Jesus, building churches of souls. She was ambitious to further the kingdom of God as an everyday pursuit, and this clearly showed in her character and community involvements. She fell in love with Jesus and wanted everyone else to share and experience the joy she had.

Many could say she made every day count and found joy in the small things in life. However, she did have impressive achievements, such as traveling to Israel and walking the steps and paths that Jesus once took 2000 years ago, working with and saving 5 souls to the Lord, and being recruited and chosen for the impressive and selective Intelligence Community Centers for Academic Excellence (ICCAE) program while studying at Long Beach.

Nancy will always be remembered as a passionate dreamer who loved God and people. She inspired others to always strive to be better and to never give up on being the best version of themselves. She was able to see the best in someone even when they couldn't. We will all miss her terribly, but we can honor her memory today by going after our dreams and passions, no matter how daunting they may seem, by living a life sold out to Christ, and by remembering to sow seeds of kindness and love wherever we go, because- as Nancy understood-  that is what our world needs.
