Julia Hurtado is a recent physician assistant grad from the USC PA Program at the Keck School of Medicine. As a soon to be PA on the front lines, she knew she would be treating COVID-19 patients but never imagined it would hit so close to home. Julia was on the other side of the country in California when she received a call from her mother in Florida informing her that multiple members of her family had been infected with COVID-19, including her father. She remained in contact with her family over calls and Facetime but soon got word that her dad needed to be hospitalized. Eventually he was transferred to the ICU and was put on a ventilator. Sadly, she informed everyone that her dad, Domingo Martinez, passed away in Florida a few days ago after his month-long battle with COVID-19. He was a beloved father, friend, and husband. Julia wants her dad to be remembered as the loving and caring person he was. He was out there working hard to provide for his family and didn’t have the option to work from home. Unfortunately, some people are still struggling to make the connection that the health of all of us depends on the actions of each of us; she continues to urge everyone to take this pandemic seriously. Julia and her family would appreciate any help you can provide them during this difficult time. The money donated will go towards the costly ICU medical bill and unforeseen financial hurdles they are facing in this moment. Thank you all for your support.
