In Honor of Martha Pizarro, Her Purpose will live!

“Un Plato de Comida, Nunca Se Le Niega a Nadie” was my dear Mother Martha Pizarro’s motto. It means “A Plate of Food is Never Denied.”

On January 26, 2021, My best friend, the love of my life, my dear loving mother, transitioned from this life to become our beautiful guardian angel. She always believed that if she left this world one day, the best part of her would live through her children and grandchildren. In honor of her life and to continue to implement the amazing life lessons that she taught us. I would like to continue her purpose, which was always to feed everyone who came to our home. Although that would be impossible now, I have been thinking of ways to give back in one of the many life lessons that she showed us.

Growing up, I saw her generously help her family and others. Our single mother raised me and my little brother in NYC our whole lives, financially; we struggled for a while; however, her fierce personality kept us safe and allowed us to live better as we grew older. Eventually, All of her struggles became many blessings in her life. Those of you who know us personally know that my mom would feed you a feast whenever you came over. I recall the time in JHS when we didn’t have enough food to share with my friend who was over and also struggled at the time... My mother knew her situation, she didn’t hesitate to feed her, and she looked at me and said, “Mi Hija un Plato de Comida Nunca se le niega a nadie.” She took a portion from her plate and mine, and we shared. During that moment, the seed was planted in my heart.

However, thinking of how it will all be different because she’s no longer here to continue to start and grow this project together greatly saddens me. It has me heartbroken that because of COVID-19... It’s even harder to have people over like before. Throughout the time that she stayed in the hospital fighting for her life, the first 30 days, we took food to the ICU Staff, who was in charge of my mother. I didn’t cook it, just bought it. They were always very helpful, caring, and treated my mom with respect, not sure if the food helped or not, but it was the very least we could do.

My brother and I were granted special permission to see her in her final days and I know right now that's something not always granted unless every requirement is met and passed through administration. As I held her hand and prayed next to her, I understood that this was an unexpected goodbye, and her life would not be in vain. Her life would still have meaning.

I want to share why this project is very important for my family and me. Although I can’t cook right now, I would like to make sure that other families who are in need of help have food delivered to their homes during these uncertain times. This project will be a work in progress, and I will be updating everyone on my facebook account and would like for this story and idea to be shared.

Please help me by contributing what you can. For family and friends that know us personally and would like to contribute flowers, chocolate etc.. thank you, but it would be best if you can share this post, and if you can contribute to this cause in her name:

Martha Pizarro.  A beautiful, wonderful, kind, strong woman who was a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Thank you.
