To know my mother was to love her. Although she was taken from us much too soon, our deep love for her shines on as strong as ever. This year, which marks the 20th anniversary of her passing, we're honoring her life by raising money for two local charities, The South Carolina Ovarian Cancer Foundation (SCOCF) and Let There Be Mom. Through this work, her memory, her compassion, and her legacy will live on.
The SCOCF was especially near and dear to her heart. As one of the organization's founding members, she was instrumental in helping newly diagnosed women across the state navigate their illnesses. Today each woman is given a Bag of Hope, which includes important items to help her with the battle ahead. Our wish is to raise enough money to cover the cost of 20 Bags of Hope and to ease the journey of 20 incredible women. You can read more about the organization at https://www.scovariancancer.org/
A newer charity that I wish had been around when my mother passed is Let There Be Mom. As its mission states, “Let There Be Mom was created to preserve the legacies of moms AND dads with life-threatening illnesses.” Amid difficult circumstances, the organization helps smooth the anxiety of children facing the loss of a parent. It also gives parents who may not see their children grow up the peace and satisfaction of leaving meaningful memories for the young ones they love. It goes without saying that we miss our mom so much. Every day, we wish she was still here to be delighted by her beautiful grandchildren and to appreciate the adults that she helped us become. We would love your support as we honor her. Please help us reach our goal!
