Ayna was truly amazing. Growing up in Norway wither her family (parents Stein and Anne-Lise and brother Runa), Ayna developed a love for adventure, traveling, and the outdoors. She came to the US and attended Wayne State University, ultimately earning her PhD in clinical psychology. During her time in the states she established close relationships and lifelong friendships. Following her graduate training, Ayna returned to Norway and built a clinical research program in addiction and psychotherapy at the University of Oslo. Her work was innovative and she was well known to those in the field.
Ayna has been a friend of mine since we initially met in graduate school. We became "two peas in a pod" while we studied, researched, and lived during that time. I value my friendship (and research collaborations) with Ayna so deeply. Throughout our friendship we have supported one another every step of the way. We shared our life moments with each other, whether it be research projects, partners, children, or jobs, we were always there to support one another. I can honestly say that I would not be who I am today without her.
Her sudden passing has devastated so many. She is survived by her partner Preben Johannesen and their 2 young children. The loss her family has experienced is beyond comprehension. It is my hope that the funds we raise will provide the family with financial support for expenses related to her passing. Another wish is that funds raised will help support her children as they have to learn to live without their beloved mother.
