In Loving Memory of Caleb Derrick

Caleb Derrick’s 40 years on this earth were far too short for a loving son, husband, father, and son-in-law. He passed away on April 28 with his wife by his side, after mounting a courageous 6-month battle with Stage 4 lung cancer, regrettably discovered after it had metastasized to his bones. This very rare, non-smoker mutation effects less that 2% of the population, is noted for successfully masquerading symptoms,  and is resistant to treatment.

He endured spine surgery, chemotherapy, a trial study and radiation until the day before his death, because he wanted nothing more than to live for his family. Yet, through it all, he stayed positive, faithful and thankful for his many blessings, which included his wife Sarah, and their three wonderful children, Peyton, 11, Gracie, 9, and Colton, 5, who were his everything.

Caleb was kind, compassionate and gregarious. If you met him, you’d remember his infectious smile and laughter. He loved coaching his children's sports teams, and was an avid sportsman himself:  golfing, fishing, and watching games with friends. He was also passionate about barbecuing, and music, and his warmth was the genuine life of the party.

Having attended Texas Tech University, Caleb loved his Red Raiders, but was a loyal Texas Longhorn fan too, growing up with a Dad who was a former Longhorn football player.

In his senior year at Texas Tech, Caleb met the love of his life, Sarah, and they married after graduation.  He started and managed his own water industry company, Derrick Systems, LLC., for ten years, then pursued a new opportunity with Evoqua Water Technologies in sales development and customer relations. He loved people and building strong relationships, and this was reflected in his earning the President’s Council Award his first year at Evoqua.

While Caleb always believed his legacy would be the miracle of healing, we now believe his legacy to all of us is his faithfulness, determination, kindness and gratitude.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Houston's Second Baptist Church in the Sanctuary, 6400 Woodway, Houston, TX 77057.  A reception will be held at the house following the service.

A memorial fund has been established for his very young family in lieu of flowers, and contributions are much appreciated.  A father cannot be replaced, but your generosity could make their new life journey a little easier.

A widow with three young children, who has been out of the job market through the early years of her children's young lives, is now faced with incomprehensibly high medical expenses incurred in just six months to save her husband's life. Their lives will never be the same in any way.  Not only did Caleb's family lose a wonderful husband and father, they've lost their means of support.

Anything you can do will be deeply appreciated.  A memorial fund has been established to meet:

Caleb's Medical and Funeral expenses; Sarah's Immediate Needs; Moving and Housing:  $200,000

Children's Future Education$100,000 X 3 = $300,000.

Total:  $500,000

Sarah Derrick will be the beneficiary for all donations collected.

Heartfelt thanks for your prayers, donations and kindnesses at this time.  If you know of someone who would appreciate having this information, please kindly send them a link to this page.
