“Very upsetting to read-

She had an 11, 7 and 3 yo and was 5 months pregnant when I met her in August. They’d been living in their car the past few weeks but were moving into the shelter. Shelters can be very hard to live in- she left

She applied for housing and was accepted but lots of red tape. So she and the three kids live in a motel and wait for inspections and fixes on the place their going. They celebrated Christmas in the motel room with the gifts you bought for them and the baby due this week.

New Years Eve she text to tell me baby K was just born but he didn’t survive. I didn’t ask questions. She was alone in a hospital trying to figure out burial plans for her baby. What does a homeless person do when their child passes away? If you can’t afford to bury your baby what happens? I don’t know.

The pastor at the hospital who was sent to talk with her was my former neighbor, I told her to ask him and he said he’d help her. Not sure what that means.

In a few hours she will be released from the hospital where she’s been all alone after having a c-section and being told her son has died. She’ll leave there and go pick up her $100 in groceries from Walmart that someone donated because she didn’t have anything for the kids to eat back in the motel. She reapplied for food stamps (you have to do that every 6-12 months for families) but they don’t come in till the 10th. Then she will pick up her kids from the sitter and go back to the hotel room where all the things she was given for her baby still is and she will cook her kids dinner. Poverty doesn’t care she’s had a csection and is hurting, emotionally traumatized and suffering.
