In Hag Lee Funeral Fund

Donation protected
Dear friends and family,

I am writing to you today to let you know about the loss of our grandfather, In Hag Lee, to stage 4 cancer. He passed away on Monday, May 18th at 10am at the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica. He is survived by his four children Vivian, Jai Keun, Hye Kyung, and Jai Kyung. In Hag Lee was 92 years old.

Today, on Wednesday, May 27th, we held the funeral service at California Mortuary at 10am with his burial right afterwards at Forest Lawn in Hollywood Hills. But because of restrictions due to Covid-19, only 10 people were allowed to attend the funeral.

Although we were aware of his terminal illness, it still hits us hard knowing that our grandfather was fighting cancer til the very end. Even a day before his death, he was able to eat, speak, and was fully aware of who he was speaking to. But with his liver and kidneys completely failing him, he eventually succumbed to his illnesses. We wanted to create a support fund for our mom, aunt and uncle who have been with our grandfather through it all. Our mom had quit her job as a manager at a dental office in order to become a full-time support for our grandfather. In addition, both our aunt and uncle work very hard supporting family by working in retail and delivery. Ideally, it would be wonderful to provide full financial coverage over the funeral costs but even a portion would be a huge blessing, especially during this Covid-19 season that plagues all of their finances.

Based on the quotes, here is a breakdown of all the costs involved in a funeral service, which are the cheapest and negotiated costs:

California Mortuary - casket, vault, headstone, funeral home charges and tax: $6,597.50
Forest Lawn - services: $2,233.50
Subtotal: $8,831.00

All of the costs have been covered by our mom, uncle, and aunt before the support of the rest of the family. However, during this very challenging season we wanted to provide support for our mom, aunt, and uncle who have been vigilant in doing whatever they can to support our grandfather during this trying time.

This is a support fund for my mom, aunt, and uncle who funded the costs of the funeral service. With only 10 family members being able to attend the funeral we wanted to share the news with the rest of our grandfather's friends and church members through this GoFundMe. I promise you that every dollar would be a huge help for our family. It's our way of showing them our gratitude for everything our mom, aunt, and uncle poured out.

With love,

Eric Byun and Chris Kim
