In Gregory Nickel's Memory: Support Jonah's Higher Education

Donation protected

In memory of Gregory Nickel, you are invited to make a donation to Jonah Nickel's (14 years old) higher education fund. Thank you for your consideration. ❤️

Born in Billings, Montana on August 4, 1965, Gregory Nickel was the son of Bernie and Pat Nickel and the youngest of six children. After growing up in Montana, he attended The College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho. He made his way to Portland, Oregon in his early 20s and began his career in finance, spending the majority of his career with Arnerich Massena as a financial performance evaluator and then, most recently, for Coldstream Wealth Management as a Senior Operations Associate. His spiritual journey took him to the Eastern Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Milwaukie, Oregon in 2002, where he was drawn to the robust and enduring expression of Christianity, and the warm and welcoming community. It was there he met his wife, Melanie West, on the Feast of the Annunciation in 2004, and they married on New Year’s Eve of 2006. Because they had each waited to find the perfect partner, they thought they would not be able to experience parenthood, so the birth of their son, Jonah, was a joyous miracle in April 2010. Jonah was the light of Greg’s life and he was deeply proud of the young man he was watching Jonah become. In recent years, Greg, Melanie, and Jonah attended Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where Jonah participates in the Greek folk dance program and Greg loved watching him perform. From his father Greg learned a strong work ethic and sense of integrity which he practiced in caring for his family, home, and garden. His faith nurtured his innate kindness and compassion, which he generously shared with everyone around him. Greg found deep joy and fulfillment in serving his family and community and many will miss his kind smile and friendship.
