A Re Gymeng! Let's Exercise!
Donation protected
"A Re Gymeng!" is a first-ever Health and Fitness Day planned for students in grades 4-7 at Thabanapitsi Primary School on January 31, 2015. Thabanapitsi Primary School is a small, rural primary school serving children in grades R-7 in Mphane village in the Limpopo province of South Africa. Mphane houses about 350 South African families, with a mere 200 students in the eight grades at the primary school.
The event, entitled "A Re Gymeng!" (or "Let's Exercise!" in Sepedi, the local language spoken in Mphane), is dedicated to teaching students how to lead safe, happy, and healthy lives despite their lack of access to gyms or organized sports teams. Children will be rotating through 30-minute stations focused on cardio, yoga, dancing, healthy eating, and HIV/AIDS awareness. Various American volunteers along with local South African nonprofits including Grassroot Soccer and SCORE will be assisting with the event. $1,500 USD will be enough money to provide t-shirts for all the children who cannot afford proper exercise attire due to their low socioeconomic status, as well as healthy fruits and other foods during the event.
Thank you for your support! Ke a leboga!
