Hi my name is Yomi and I've recently retired from the UK and relocated to Badagry, Lagos State where I now live for at least 6 months in the year
While in the UK I mainly worked as a social worker, behaviour improvement practitioner and mental health worker.
Many of those years were spent working with adolescents in the care system, youth offending and at risk of exclusion from secondary schools.
Now in Badagry, Lagos I'm involved in setting up projects working with secondary school counselors and local youth groups to improve the mental and emotional well-being of youth in the community.
Throughout 2025 working with ILERA Community Health Initiative as their Mental Health Lead I intend to run a number of activities all aimed at improving adolescent mental and emotional health/well-being.
Programmes will include:
1) Continuous Professional Development training for school counselors
2) Expressive Arts as a therapeutic tool for working with youths (we have already run a pilot 3 day workshop in March with Bryanna from the US)
3) Social and Emotional Learning and Building Resilience training for school teachers and educators
4) Conflict Coaching and Peer Mentoring training for school teachers and educators
For the above we aim to raise the sum of £5000 for the rest of 2025 so please make a donation or even become a fundraising for us.
NB - For anyone from the Nigerian/African Diaspora who likes a hands on approach we also offer a special self funded Diaspora Volunteering programme. For more information on this programme simply contact me.
