My name is gui zhiyou, the Global Ambassador of Lead Connect Global. We are a non-profit NGO that believes everyone has a right to equality, particularly equal access to information and opportunity. Founded humbly in 2022, we have organized many programs to improve the quality of education for kids in underserved Ghanaian communities. What we have done includes, but is not limited to:
- Community Service Program – Voluntary Teaching and Mentorship Program: Leading university students to live in hard-to-reach communities for weeks to months to mentor schoolchildren.
- Senior High School Mentorship: Training professionals and volunteers to mentor senior high school students.
- A Talk With The Experts: Connecting experts in diverse fields with university students or recent graduates in interactive workshops.
- School and Community Outreaches / Donations: Distributing educational and health materials to underserved schools.
- The Lead Connect Global Quiz Competition: Empowering students from underserved backgrounds to thrive in intellectual activities.
Among all of the programs, we are most proud of our Community Service Program – Voluntary Teaching and Mentorship Program—and this is where we need your help the most!
Earlier this year, from March 15th to April 17th, our dedicated volunteers spent a month in Hohoe, Ghana, to help improve the education quality in Wli Todzi, Gbledi Gbogame, Fodome Axor, Fodome Woe, and Fodome Hlorma—some of the less prioritized communities in Ghana when it comes to education. Our university volunteers assisted with teaching in understaffed classrooms to facilitate academic interactions, and we continued mentoring the children and families in the community to ensure no child was neglected or left behind.
During our program, we brought teaching supplies, books, and stationery to the schools we served. We initiated workshops to discuss skill development, time management, mental health, and career choices. We led children to make soup, food, and take care of themselves. We distributed sanitary pads and taught about menstrual health and pregnancy care to foster a gender equity environment. We supported sustainable farming to promote food security and self-sufficiency. We encouraged urban-rural exchange for every participant to learn from each other’s differences. We collaborated with the community to build a better place for children to grow.
This program is unique because we have brought quality beyond quantity, and such quality of education has to be sustainable. We are launching a more ambitious Community Service Program from September 20th to December 18th, 2025—this time even longer and more exciting! As we have scaled up the volunteer number to 60 trained university students, we are looking to contribute to developing the community to create more local opportunities, improving the living environment and the sense of self for youth to learn more and grow stronger.
To make this happen, we need your support.
We are raising funds to purchase more teaching and learning materials for our upcoming Community Service Program. Your contributions will also go toward transporting our dedicated volunteer teachers and educational materials from Accra to North Tongu District and providing accommodation and food for our volunteers during the three-month program. If you would love to help us on our journey, please donate and share this post. Each small contribution can accumulate into a powerful momentum for a child to learn. We deeply appreciate your support in our purpose of making education equal for everyone.
Our mission is to give hope to the hopeless, empower and create opportunities for the youth.
