In order to raise money for Wellbeing of Women, I will be cycling from London to Edinburgh, climbing Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and swimming a 10km marathon swim, in 14 days.

Wellbeing of Women is a nonprofit organisation which funds research into women’s health issues, advocates for women’s rights and provides menstrual education to young people.

Dysmenorrhea is the umbrella term for severe and frequent menstrual cramps, and affects up to 20% of women and their daily lives severely. Other symptoms include nausea, fatigue and dizziness. While some cases of dysmenorrhea are explained by menstrual conditions such as endometriosis and fibroids, a diagnosis of such conditions can take years and many cases of dysmenorrhea have no identifiable cause. As a result, millions of women around the world live their lives in pain.

I have chosen to raise money for Wellbeing of Women because dysmenorrhea has taken months out of my life and as such I have missed out on sports and gatherings and had my education impacted. Research into women’s health is also severely underfunded, particularly now more than ever, as the US have revoked funding for projects researching women’s health. For example, five times more research goes into erectile dysfunction, which affects 19% of men, than into premenstrual syndrome, which affects 90% of women.

My aim is to raise £1000 pounds to help fund research into dysmenorrhea to identify its causes and more effectively relieve its symptoms. Thank you for your support and your donation!
