immigration is not a prison system

Please help us try and abolish s501, indefinite detention is unacceptable, immigration is not a prison system!

Hi my name is Jarin. I am trying to raise money for a lawyer to have my husband released from the detention centre where he is being held (Villawood detention centre- Sydney). He has been within these 4 walls for almost 2 & a half years now and they are claiming his paperwork has not been recieved. When he first arrived at the immigration centre they told him he has 2 options 1) either sign his deportation paperwork or 2) hire a lawyer and fight to stay in Australia.Habib has willingly signed the deportation papers to be deported back to his country of Bangladesh willingly.ABF & his case officer guaranteed him that he will be back to Bangladesh within 2-4 months.Unfortunately months went by and they kept telling him paperwork is still in the process and there is no news.On 3 occasions within the 2 years ABF removal officers called and told him he is going back to Bangladesh, Habib would pack his bags with the hopes of getting his freedom at last to then get a phone call saying they have cancelled the flight and they can’t deport him due to a mix up or miscommunication issue.Unfortunately this has had a massive detrimental affect on his mental state, & he is talking about self harming himself as he has no release date. (Around 20 people have committed suicide within 2 years). They continue to give him false hope.

Myself & Habib have decided that the only option we have left is to Hire a lawyer and seek Professional help.
