Hello, I am launching this fundraiser on behalf of an undocumented engineering student at Cal Poly. I am sharing his story with you as he is approaching a very decisive point in his life and he needs your help. He immigrated from Mexico to the U.S. when he was 13 years old. In that time, he and his family navigated the legal immigration system, being 'legal' at times, and remaining without status at others. Upon learning the details of his situation, he had to work harder than most of his peers to attend higher education. As a double major engineering student at Cal Poly he has had to finance his own education without federal aid and/or access to loans.
He has navigated his way through the university and identified various avenues to modestly support himself without a work permit or residential status. He does not have the opportunity to obtain scholarships, grants, jobs, and other means of support.
As a university graduate, he is now able to pursue legal status as a permanent resident of the United States through employment sponsorship, which would allow him the equal opportunity to pursue a life in the US with more ease. He was hesitant at first for the support to create this fundraiser, but with some encouragement, he has accepted this effort with the beautiful support group of friends and family around him. On his behalf, I am asking for financial help that is within your giving capacity. The costs to process his immigration papers are quickly adding up to $11,000, which is hard for one individual to save up in these conditions. Any little bit helps.
