Save our Kids Immigrant Centre

For three years we've run a small immigrant centre in Sicily called Mosaiko for unaccompanied under-18 asylum seekers. With the change in government and policies we're going to find it impossible to stay open. Funds are already difficult and will be cut. 'New' kids will no longer be assigned to us instead being handed directly to government-run centres in order for them to be processed for deportation.
Last night, with the news that the ports are closing by our new right-wing leader I knew I had to fight back. To help those still in the country, to keep our centre open and to make sure that we continue on a path to integration and not segregation.
For three years we've ran programs teaching our kids Italian, projects with the local schools to educate them and also to educate the local children forming friendships within the community.
Integration is the central tenet of our program, even now the summer has starting and our kids are signed up for the local summer school as volunteers.
With independent funding we can keep hosting our kids and not be forced to surrender them to the government. We can accept migrants still in the country and help them integrate, which is fundamental for the good of our community, Italy and Europe.
This is important work at a desperate time here in Sicily and I will not give up in the face of a hostile government.
The target is enough to keep us open for a year.
Every little helps keep us open and going forward.
One of my friends told me that she thinks this won't leave my circle of friends because we don't have much of an online presence. And that's because until now, we haven't needed to. However proof exists here:
