May Update!

Josephine has had her splint removed and is completely healed now! She is still on her proboost, which helps with her immune system. We now need funds to spay her and get the other vaccinations needed to keep her healthy. Any help would help us with this procedure. We have ran into one dilemma however, Josephine has been pregnant, unbeknownst to us and had her baby on May 24th early in the morning. She only had one. Our best guess is that since she had gone through so much she was only able to make one in her womb, so her kitten is a miracle. We love Josephine and we are happy that she is now not alone in her space since she needs to be separated from other non-positive cats. Although her kitten is not at risk for FeLV we hope that they will get adopted together. Any help will go towards Josephines future spay and vaccines, along with her new baby treatment, neuter and vaccines, in the future. Thank you to everyone who has helped her and us. They are both miracles.

This is Josephine, she was found on highway I10 in Houston, thought to have been thrown out of someone’s vehicle due to her injuries. I received notice of her and her condition on March 18th at 8pm and talked to Spooky Whiskers about her condition. We were scared that there were internal injuries, internal bleeding or broken bones. So we brought her to a 24/7 hospital called Sunset. We stayed with her there until 3am then took her home. She was diagnosed with FeLV, a highly contagious disease that makes it much more difficult to takecare of her. However her blood work was ok, she is slightly anemic and was overall in distress. X-rays confirm fractures in her foot, which is swollen and she has other “old” injuries that do not appear to be from the highway. This is probably the scariest part of her exam. There is no way to know how she sustained so many injuries prior to being thrown onto a dangerous highway. Josephine is the epitome of why we do what we do at It Starts With Socks Rescue, the innocence of an animal always finds a way into the hands of cruelty. Josephine has a very long way to go, her first vet bill was over 1800, and her next one is a realignment of her metatarsals and a splint that will need to be removed periodically to watch for infection due to her open wounds. That vet bill is already $1500 and will go up from there. We are trying to plan to get her back to the ER on March 20th for this realignment, before her bones begin to heal improperly and causes even more harm or even amputation. Her time is critical and we are doing our best to make sure she can get what she needs before it's too late. She is in a lot of pain, we are giving her gabapentin but im afraid she isnt eating enough and we have only seen one bowel movement. We are scared for her and we need help and support. Any contribution will be going directly to her care. Please. Let's save this baby, she deserves so much more. Humanity has failed her, until now
