Immediate medical expenses

Hi, my name is Kelly Krueger. On Tuesday, April 18, 2023 my father-in-law, Joe Krueger, was involved in a motorcycle accident. He was traveling west bound and a 1990 Ford F-150 (detailed so you can imagine the damages a vehicle like this can cause) was traveling east bound. The F-150 failed to yield to oncoming traffic and turned out in front of my FIL. My FIL knew impact was inevitable and to avoid hitting the truck head on he laid his Harley down. The Harley flew one way and unfortunately my FIL flew into the truck and had to be life flighted to the hospital where he remained in the ICU. We've got a very long road ahead of us and we'd like to make sure he doesn't fall behind on his bills while he's in the hospital, gets the care he needs while the insurance company is working everything out, and the ability to provide him with legal support. Any bit helps, and we hope you read and share our story.

Day 2 update:

Has 3 brain bleeds
Swelling in the brain
Laceration on top/back of head to his skull
Fractured face
Collapsed lung
Road rash
Tendons showing on hands
On ventilator
Docs are going to keep him in medical coma for a few days so hopefully his body can relax and begin to heal.

Day 3 Update:

We are still in ICU. Not much has changed, but nothing has gotten worse. He is responding to pain and has responded to the nurse when asked to move toes.
Getting ultrasound today on heart, MRI and another CT scan.
Still in a medically induced coma.

Day 4 Update:

FIL is still in medical induced coma. He squeezed my hand today and has randomly been opening one eye. They turned his oxygen off and he is breathing on his own. They did an MRI and it came back good so they removed his neck brace. CT scan was done again today and no additional bleeds or swelling was detected.

Day 5 Update:

FIL woke up and is responding to commands! He knows who we are, where he is but forgets why. He’s trying his hardest to communicate with us, with actions. We’re still not verbal, yet. Baby steps. He spent the majority of the day awake trying to get up at times.
We finally bugged everyone enough and he got his NG tube so he can get some nutrients going! We asked him to give one of the nurses that helped with his NG tube, a thumbs up and he did. She said, “or you could flip me off if you wanted to,” and he sure as heck did!! I died. He’s still got his sense of humor in there!

He is off the ventilator and off of oxygen completely. I cannot believe his progress.
Monday he will start speech therapy, physical therapy - all the therapies!!!

We are unsure how long we’ll be in the hospital, we’re making progress daily but there’s a very long road ahead. We will likely be looking at an inpatient rehabilitation facility which will be costly. In addition, we need to make sure we’re keeping Joe afloat while he’s off of his feet. We appreciate your support!
