I am organizing this for my friend who I have known for 30+ years.
With a smile on her face, Carole (Geiling) Maravich teaches music to children in Fairfield, CT, currently teaching at Burr Elementary School. For 34 years she has made a difference in peoples’ lives through music, friendship and the can-do attitude that has guided her throughout her life.
This past week, during tropical storm Isaias, her home was devastated by an incredibly large 150-200-year-old Tulip Tree. As the wind rushed through Fairfield, the towering tree fell through the roof of her home and into the attic, through two bedrooms and finally resting above the kitchen ceiling.
Carole, Joyce (Carole’s sister), and Nicolle (Carole’s daughter), huddled together in a main floor bedroom waiting for the storm to end since waiting in the basement was not an option. Carole’s daughter Nicolle is in Hospice at home. She is unable to walk. Carole & Joyce were unable to carry Nicolle to the basement to safety.
After the tree tore through the house, neighbors immediately descended upon Carole’s home looking for survivors. They found the three inhabitants and quickly carried Nicolle out of the home in a wheelchair through the basement. Carole & Joyce grabbed medications and essential items for Nicolle not knowing if they would be able to re-enter or if the house would collapse.
Staying at the home of wonderful caring neighbors, Carole had to regroup quickly and make decisions that would affect the future of her family.
A quick recap of what has happened since the house was decimated on Tuesday 8/4/2020…Carole, Joyce & Nicolle are staying at a hotel and trying to make it Hospice suitable while currently looking for a home to rent. Craig, Carole’s son, has come to Connecticut to help his mom make life changing decisions. Paramount to Carole and her family is to make each day count, and safe, and peace-filled for her beautiful and courageous daughter. This family is in critical shock and will not have a home for the better part of a year. It is also uncertain as to what they will be able to recoup in regard to their belongings. In this time of COVID-19 these challenges are amplified, and decision making is made more complex.
Immediate help is needed. Specifically, funds to meet the day to day needs and most importantly to keep Nicolle safe, warm and in a comforting environment.
Sometimes it takes a village and we thank you for your kindness and caring.
Be Safe & Be Healthy.
All funds will go directly to Carole and her family.
