The Immaculata Project

Help me fund the Immaculata Mission School House and create a home for young people looking to grow in faith, purpose and happiness.

What is this campaign about?

In February 2015 one my close friends told us she was moving away to join a religious order - the Sisters of the Immaculata - based out of Tasmania. We spent almost every birthday, Christmas, Easter and Sunday mass together; we were basically family, so her taking this leap of faith (literally!) was as much of a change for us as it was for her. Our families have always been religious, but we never imagined it would take any of us down this path.

I had a vague understanding of what life in the sisterhood involved, the same way the next person who knew every word to every song in Sister Act did. But it wasn't until I visited the Sisters in November that I really understood their passion for their mission to serve.

The Sisters live in a worn house atop a hill beside the Huon River and have no income - as humble a living as one would expect. One of the programs they run is an annual Mission School, inviting youth from all over Australia to experience the joy of the Catholic faith and to be guided in finding meaning and purpose among the material noise, but they have no place to welcome them. Without a place, the Sisters would be unable to continue their mission and help guide youth to a meaningful and fulfilling life within their communities.

So I've decided to raise funds to help the Sisters secure a place for their Mission School, and I invite you to join me.

Please join my campaign, spread the word, and help me raise $70,000 by August 2016 to help the Sisters purchase a building that they can turn into a home for our youth.

THE CAUSE

In an age where materialism and temptation dictate our values and priorities, it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture, and suddenly we’re lost and searching for our purpose. Society is plagued with high rates of youth depression and suicide, with young people constantly bombarded with “things” but never meaning or direction.

Founded in 2008, the Sisters of the Immaculata are dedicated to changing this and bringing young people the chance to find fulfilment and purpose through the Christian faith; to providing the opportunity to transform the lives of others, and to help create meaningful life experiences through their Mission School, but they need our help to do this.

The Mission School is grounded in passion and desire, but it remains without a place or space. The Sisters do not receive an income, relying solely on the grace of God and the generosity of the community. With your support, we can help the Sisters continue their mission and enrich the lives of our youth by funding the purchase of a building to provide a space for the Immaculata Mission School and create a home for young people.

WHY THEY NEED YOUR HELP

Every year the Sisters run a two-week Mission School aimed at forming young Catholics in a knowledge and love for God, with the purpose of guiding them towards a deeper purpose and meaning in life.

Since its inception the Immaculata Mission School has welcomed over 250 young Australians. Through an intensive program of studies in the Catholic faith, outreach in schools, universities and nursing homes throughout Tasmania, and service in the wider community, young people have emerged from the Immaculata Mission School transformed and with a renewed focus and passion for a meaningful life in the Catholic faith.

“My perception of the Catholic Church was as a joy-sucking leech. The Immaculate Mission School changed my life, my perception about the Church and my image of God…I am so thankful for the Immaculata Sisters because they have shown the true path towards pure love and pure happiness.”

Interest in the Mission School has grown through the years. On 1 September 2016 the Sisters hope to expand the Mission School to a 5-month program to provide an opportunity for young people to experience a deeper formation and mission in the Catholic faith, but they need our help to fund a permanent space to make this possible.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

The Sisters of the Immaculata have endeavoured to run their annual Mission School on a low budget. Often parishioners volunteer to cook meals for the group, and activities are conducted at low cost to make the experience accessible for young people. However, this setting often sees up to a dozen young people boarding in a single room on bunk beds.

The Sisters are seeking a permanent space - a building - to conduct their activities and welcome and accommodate the attending youth. But with no income, the Sisters are unable to secure a building for their Mission School alone, and with the extended program scheduled to start in September 2016, their need for our support and generosity is even greater.

By August 2016 we need to raise at least $70,000 to help the Sisters secure a building in Tasmania where they can provide more and more young people with the opportunity to discover and experience faith, purpose, community and belonging.

“You want people to fall in love with their faith, so that once they have learnt and lived their faith they can return to the world and can build a culture of life.”

Mother Mary Therese, founder and Mother Superior of the Sisters of the Immaculata

Please help give our youth the chance and the opportunity to live their lives in truly meaningful and fulfilling ways by contributing to the Immaculata Project today. Your support can help strengthen and transform young people, like Isabella from Melbourne.

“I rediscovered the beauty and importance of the Mass, adoration, the rosary and scripture and I now know that these need to be my anchors in my prayer and daily life.”

Please help us spread the word and raise support for the Immaculata Mission School by sharing this project with your friends and wider networks, and asking for their contribution.

If 1000 people contributed just $70 each, or 700 people gave $100, we can reach our goal. But no matter how much you are able to give, your contribution, big or small, will help us do something truly amazing. Every dollar counts!

With your help and support we can achieve our goal and help fund a house so more young people can have the opportunity to grow, not only as a Catholic, but also as a person.
