KEILSTRONG FOUNDATION - #IMLPgoesRed
In 2018 Erica Keil began having massive headaches that were originally diagnosed as cluster headaches until they found benign tumors in both of her orbits. After many medical treatments, undiagnosed tumors and a growing list of medical issues, dozens of medications and chemotherapy treatments, hers and her families lives changed drastically as their world began to revolve around keeping Erica alive and moving forward. In 2019, after being tripped down the stairs by her dog and getting an X-ray for a thought to be broken rib, Erica was diagnosed with multiple lung tumors and 2 pulmonary embolisms. After an open lung biopsy, she was diagnosed with a rare form of Vasculitis called granulomatosis with Polyangiitis ANCA negative. After multiple rounds of chemotherapy that she will continue to receive for the rest of her life, Erica was told she was in "remission", meaning that the tumors are under control and no new tumors were found, on July 27, 2020.
The journey the Keil family went through was one that no family should have to endure, and this, in part, lead to the creation of the KeilStrong foundation. One of the current KeilStrong projects is #IMLPgoesRed. Eric Keil, father of Erica and co - founder of the foundation, will be running Ironman Lake Placid on July 25 2021 and is raising money through his training and Ironman journey for the Vasculitis Foundation. This money will help with research, support, and education. His journey, not just of the 140.6 miles on Raceday, but all the training and emotions that go in to it, will be for something bigger than himself, and will be his way of fighting this illness with his daughter. Please help us reach our goal of 1000$ by Raceday for the Vasculitis Foundation.
