For those of you that may not know me, my name is Imani. I am a 23 year old, Non-Binary, Pasifika artist living in Meanjin. I understand, both this and last year have been incredibly difficult for us all in different ways, but I pray my plea will translate well to the greater community, as I ask for help.

On the morning of August 17th, while trying to dispose of some work equipment; I took a fall and plummeted down a flight of stairs. The impact of the fall resulted in me breaking the fibula bone in my right leg, as well causing major damage to the tendons in my ankle, leaving me in need of reparative surgery and months of followup care.

Two weeks before this accident; my resignation was finalised with my employer. In the period since this happened, I set out to find work in the creative field, while working Doordash and Uber Eats to cover my bills. Because of my injury, I realistically wont be able to use my leg for at least 4-6 months (2 months of non weight bearing, 2-4 months of limited use while in recovery). Legally because I was not an employee of the business at the time of the accident, I was also left unable to file a work claim; despite the injury being related to work equipment from the office. I have exhausted multiple options to supplement this lost income but unfortunately none of the stones turned have returned any results.

I am hoping to raise $8,000 to help me cover current ongoing bills, as well as the numerous upcoming expenses that will be involved in my recovery; some of which include: Hire of medical equipment, Physiotherapy, and Transport to and from medical appointments.

I was and still am hesitant to reach out for this help, knowing that I try to carry myself as a very independent person. But, it has come to a point where I can't afford to let my pride get in the way of this help that I know I am desperately in need of.
