Imani's Eyes
About 6 months ago our daughter Imani was diagnosed with a very rare eye disorder called Keratoconus. It is a progressive disorder that causes the eye cornea to thin and bulge outwards in a cone shape. It can cause blurred or distorted vision, astigmatism, double vision, inability to see in dim light, nearsightedness, sensitivity to light, or vision loss and can lead to "legal blindness" if not treated. Imani has been experiencing most of these symptoms already. Unfortunately, the disease had progressed quite a bit before Imani's diagnosis was made.
Keratoconus CANNOT be cured. However, the progression of the disease can be stopped with an eye surgery called Corneal Cross-Linking. The problem is that most doctors don't perform the procedure and insurance will not cover it as it is a relatively new procedure. We have been to multiple doctors, but the answer is always the same. We keep being told that we can pay "out of pocket" to have the surgery done, but depending on where its done, this procedure can cost up to $20,000 per eye. Needless to say, this high cost is extremely prohibitive! We cannot do it ourselves. Anything you can give, including prayers, is GREATLY appreciated! Thank you.
