I'm writing again.
I stopped five or six years ago. Getting the ideas out of my head onto paper had become too difficult. Perhaps also I didn’t have anything worth saying. Writing had always been a love-hate relationship for me.
That’s changed a lot.
Now I have a lot to say and the process of saying it has become therapeutic. I suffered from bipolar illness. Suffered – past tense. Medical professionals might dispute the statement that I’m cured. Let’s just say that I’m healthy and functioning.
A month ago, I began journaling again. It was a great way to document intimate feelings without burdening others with the minutiae of my life. That evolved into how and why depression stopped affecting me. And that morphed into notes for a memoir. The working title is I Changed My Mind. Currently, I’m working on an article titled “How I Got Well.” It will be a springboard for the memoir which will recount the full story of how bipolar first presented and then how I’ve become mentally healthy over the past 20+ years. A second memoir is floating in the back of my head. And there are ideas for short stories and a novel or two.
There’s no guarantee anything I write will be published. But there is no possibility of publishing something that never gets written. And it’s all great therapy.
If I don’t find a publisher for my mental health memoir, I will self-publish. After that, we’ll see. But the first step is creating the space in which I can write and produce.
Can you help me focus on writing?
I have debt. With only social security and sporadic freelance work as income, eliminating that debt is taking a lot of time and is distracting. Writing without worrying about generating income is the goal here.
Anyone who supports this campaign will receive pdfs of my writing for the next 12 months, plus a copy of my memoir when it’s completed regardless of how it may be published.
And if you know of anyone who may be interested in supporting me, please share the link to the campaign.
Thanks for tuning into this and thanks in advance for any support proffered.
