I’m Walking from Birmingham to Norton to Break the Stigma Around Mental Health

Hi, my name is Brian Gill, and on August 10th, I’ll begin a walk from Birmingham to Norton — a journey that will take 5 to 6 days on foot.

You may be asking,
“Why take on such a massive challenge?”

Because I know what it’s like to suffer in silence.

My Story

Three years ago, I hit rock bottom. I was struggling with my mental health and felt completely lost. I tried to take my own life.

By the grace of God, I was found in time. That moment changed everything.

I finally reached out for help — something I was so scared to do — and that decision saved my life.

Since then, I’ve worked hard to build a new life, but I’ll never forget how it felt to believe I had no one, and no way out.

Why I’m Walking

I’m doing this walk not for me —
but for the people still suffering in silence.
For those who feel like they can’t ask for help.
For those who believe the world would be better without them.

Mental health struggles are invisible, but their impact is real.
Every day, people are fighting battles we can’t see.
Every day, lives are lost because of stigma, shame, and silence.

The Goal

If this walk can save even one life, or help just one person open up and seek support, then every step will be worth it.

By donating, you’re not just supporting my walk —
you’re helping to raise awareness, open conversations, and break the stigma surrounding mental health.

How You Can Help

Please consider sponsoring me — even if it’s just £1.
Every donation, big or small, makes a difference.
The money raised will go to two charities, Billy’s Lifeline and Mind Teeside, supporting vital mental health services, families and loved ones impacted by suicide loss and awareness efforts.

It’s not weak to speak.

It’s OK not to be OK.

Thank you for reading, for supporting, and for believing in this cause.

Let’s walk this journey together.
