I'm running the Big Half, Lets be the light!!

Hi, my name is Norma Magomo, a finance professional who is passionate about helping underserved communities to reach their full potential. I am running my first half marathon!!!

I am extremely excited to be taking part in the London Big Half Marathon in September this year and even more excited to use this opportunity to make positive impact. I believe that this would be a great opportunity to raise awareness and funding for orphaned and vulnerable children in Zimbabwe.

I will be partnering with a Zimbabwe based charity – Chiedza. Chiedza is a community-based organisation that serves communities characterised by high levels of poverty, unemployment, social vices and school dropouts. Due to the impact of protracted economic challenges, other social challenges like covid-19, drought and general poverty, the country has seen a lot of children dropping out of school over the years. Beyond children’s academic needs, the organisation offers wholistic support and deals with other aspects such as child protection, health, and nutrition.

The funds raised here will be used towards meeting the following needs:

• Buying stationery for children.

• Buying textbooks for children.

• Building a classroom block for Form 1 learners who are using a disused garage.

• Buying groceries for the kitchen.

• Paying school fees for reintegrated children.

• Contributing towards volunteer stipends for teachers.

• Buying sanitary wear for girls.

• Paying examination fees for learners.

I strongly believe that education has played a pivotal role in opening doors of opportunities in both my personal and professional journey. Every child deserves to feel loved, supported and to have an education. Let us be the light and make a difference in these children’s lives!
