In memory of Neville Richmond

Hello All,

On Sunday, November 27, 2022, Neville Richmond, father to our dearest friend and colleague Ashley Richmond, passed away peacefully at home in Scarborough, Ontario.

For those who know Ash well, he is always the first person to lend a hand, volunteer for anything and never ask for a single thing in return. It comes as no surprise that when his father became ill in the UK, Ash was on a plane and began the process of bringing him to Canada so Ash could look after him.

While trying to obtain residency, Nevilles' illness made it difficult to care for him, and Ash was able to find a good home for him at the Wiarton Retirement residences. Ash's weekends and vacations were now regular visits to Wiarton to visit his dad and look after his needs there, all with the support of his new and adoring wife, Mabel.

At the Wiarton residence, Neville quickly earned the admiration of the staff with his winning British charm, a trait he thankfully passed on to Ash. He acclimated well, though it was not long before Neville's health began to degrade, and the staff could no longer attend to Neville. Ash, without a second thought, brought his father home with him and began to look after his father himself. From feedings to baths, Ash and Mabel looked after Neville and did not ask for help. Though family stepped in where they could, Ash was insistent he would look after his father, and he did so with the care and love only the most kind-hearted are capable of.

We have all experienced the loss of someone close, and some have also endured the financial burden that goes with taking care of loved ones. As a non-resident, Neville's medicine, long-term care and hospital stay all came at a high cost to Ash. He never once asked for any financial aid and not once complained. He is proud and humble and does not want to burden anyone.

Those who have come to love Ash and all his quirks know that he does not need to ask for our help as we are always there to give it. So I invite anyone able and with whom you have a personal connection with Ash to please help contribute towards Neville's final arrangements. Please help Ash lay his father to rest by donating what you can, or reach out to Ash with your words and tell him you are here for him and remind him he is surrounded by those who love him.
