I’m Homeless and Living Out of My Car ~

My name is Jordan, but most of you know me as J, Jdartz, or jortdort (whichever). I’m based in Austin, TX for right now and I’m living out of my car. I just turned 23 a week or so ago, and I’ve had huge financial struggles since I was 19. I’ve been homeless for about 2 years now, occasionally bouncing from couch to couch with the help of friends and family, but now I’m in a position where I have little to no help locally from anyone I know, and nowhere to go.

The last place I was able to stay at was my brother’s apartment for about 6 months until I had to leave on April 30th. His landlord was going to raise his rent by a staggering amount because of me staying there, so I had no other choice but to go. My brother won’t do anything to help, and he’s the only person I even know in the Austin area. I moved out here because he gave me the option, and now I’ve got nobody else. Before this, I was staying with a friend in Houston, but I left because I hate being a burden to people and I just couldn’t get anything to go right for me while I was there.

I’ve tried for so long to get back on my feet, and pursue things to lead a better life, (honestly, just even have a life in general) but there have been so many life-altering obstacles that keep setting me way further back than I was before. Issues like abuse, trauma, negligence from family, and car troubles sum up the reason I’m in need of help. I tried taking my own life over a year ago and was transported to the hospital and subsequently revived, and lately those thoughts have been creeping back up on me.

Every time it would seem like things were looking up for me, another doom and gloom final boss would present itself LMAO. When I first got to Austin in November, my brother gave me a deadline until February 1st to: Earn money and build myself up by consistently streaming, and to go back to college. ALL things I already wanted to do but had to postpone because I’ve been homeless all this time. Keep in mind I don’t have my own PC, so I was only able to use my brother’s when he wasn’t on it. Proved to be quite difficult at times because he uses it fairly often to edit videos and pictures since he’s a photographer. Things were going fine until my increasing amount of car issues kept piling up. I used my car to do DoorDash/UberEats when I wasn’t streaming because the market was pretty good here. But then my car’s engine started overheating a lot, and eventually one day in the middle of December, it completely broke down while I was on the freeway.

I had no way of paying for a lot of the issues I was having. A lot of you all helped me with that. Again, I didn’t always have access to a PC, but streaming was still my only source of income. Jobs were either scarce in availability, nothing close enough to me, or had issues with my social security information because I haven’t had an address in 2 years. That being said, when I finally got enough money to fix the car, it had been 2.5 months of mechanics cancelling or rescheduling. And my car was completely fried so they had to come out to me, I couldn’t take it to a shop. Just for the guy to tell me it was a bigger problem than he thought. So all that time and money wasted on diagnostics and appointments and parts. Just for it to still be unusable.

It was around the middle of March when he came out the last time to install a part. I also had to get a whole new battery just to even start it. Since it was finally able to move, I took it to an actual shop where I was essentially told I had a blown head gasket and it would cost around $6,000 to fix. Obviously something I couldn’t do.

And now fast forward to time running out and my brother told me his landlord was going to increase his rent on May 1st if I wasn’t gone. So I essentially have no money, no help from anybody I know in person, and nowhere to go. All while sleeping in a car that overheats and is close to exploding on itself if I drive it more than 5 miles.

I’ve been out here for 3 weeks now, and I was receiving help from Tevin (@YourBudTevin). He hit me up about hoping to find a place for me to stay and he’s been raising money for me, but he informed me that things kinda fell through with donations and the apartment he had lined up for me. At this point I’ve run out of resources. My cellular ran out, and I have nowhere else to charge my phone because my car is dying so I’m stranded. I’m making this as my last option because anything will help.

And if anyone in the Austin area is willing to help me find a place to stay or stay with them, I’d appreciate it. I’m not weird, I promise!!!

I genuinely don’t know what a good amount for this goal would be, so I’m using this as a starting point. Hopefully something good comes out of this ~
