Hi, I’m Peter.
I’ve worked over 20 years as a UX/UI designer, building digital experiences for major clients like Vodafone, BT Business, Three Mobile, and others across the UK and EU. I’ve always handled my own problems and kept going, no matter what. But I’ve hit a point where I can’t do it alone anymore.
From September 2023 through March 2024, the job market collapsed. I finally landed a contract in early 2024, but that ended on March 31st. Since then, despite applying daily, networking, updating my portfolio and CV, and launching a direct outreach campaign to 675 recruiters, I’ve had almost no traction.
I’m not sitting back. I apply every day, including to roles far below my level. I’ve rebuilt my portfolio, added two new case studies, and just yesterday I reached out personally to nearly 60 recruiters and hiring managers. I had a few callbacks this week, which gives me hope. But the bills can’t wait.
Why I’m Asking for Help
Right now, I’m £2,500 into my overdraft. My rent is £1,450. My car loan is £780 per month. I’ve got debt with HMRC, DWP, and corporate tax due, all with payment plans I could easily cover if I was working.
My Universal Credit is £1,936 per month. My wife brings in about £1,000. We have two school aged sons, one of whom struggles with anxiety. I carry this quietly to protect him.
I’ve avoided asking for help all my life.
I’ve always found a way through contracts, side projects, or sheer persistence. But this time, I’m out of room. This is the worst financial position I’ve ever faced, and I’m asking because I believe I can bounce back if I can just survive this stretch.
What Your Support Will Help With
- Rent and essential bills (utilities, phone, internet)
- Food and daily costs for our family
- Keeping our home stable and my job search alive
- Stopping the debt from snowballing while I fight to get back on my feet.
This isn’t forever. I will bounce back. I’m working every day to land that next contract. I just need help to get through the storm.
If you can donate, even £5, I’m genuinely grateful. And if you can’t, just sharing this means the world.
I truly appreciate you taking the time to read this. Every bit of support or even just a share makes a real difference.
