In the last two years I've been nearly homeless twice due to the British Columbia Canada housing market, and having to move due to multiple landlords needing the space for their familys from overseas. I'm currently living in an apartment building that is going to be sold for its land value as the neighborhood I am in is gentrifying, and buildings are being bought up by one company.
I'm frightened this ongoing threat of homelessness won't stop, and I'm frightened of becoming a senior and homeless. There are loads of homeless people in my neighborhood. I am raising money to buy a mobile home that I can fix up, live in and never have to worry again about becoming homeless. I save money and cut back in as many possible ways as I can. For example I have no television, I have no data plan, my cell phone costs $100 a year, I get free food wherever I can, I hold off buying clothes for over a year at a time and fix what I have. The cheapest I can find is being sold for $140,000 and because it's a trailer I have to put down 30%. This is especially difficult because I am disabled and survive on a Disability Pension as well as the small amount of money I make through my Patreon narration account . I've just started working with the financial advisor at my bank and we have a 3-year Savings Plan where I'm saving $8,000 a year, in a Canadian tax-free mortgage savings account. I'm doing as much as I can but it's not enough, and now my timeline is being shortened and I don't want to lose what I've already saved by spending it I'm trying not to be homeless for a third time.
