Five years ago, I underwent a myomectomy surgery to remove 49 fibroids. After having removed a fibroid the size of a small soccer ball, my doctor was forced to perform a second procedure due to internal bleeding. This is a subject that is dear to me and I would like to do my part in helping raise awareness and supporting research.
I have new ones growing already. To go through the same invasive surgery is something I’m sure no one who has been through it, wants to go through again. We need more options.
The Foundation for Women’s Health is a leading nonprofit funding women specific health research. They established, in partnership with Academy Award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o, a Uterine Fibroid Research Grant to advance less invasive and non-invasive medical treatments for fibroids.
Fibroids are benign tumors that grow in and around the uterus. Up to 8 out of 10 women will develop fibroids by age 50. Fibroids remain severely under researched, and are a leading cause of hysterectomies.
#MakeFibroidsCount is a movement for millions of women who silently carry physical and emotional burdens from fibroids.
Together, we can change the future of women’s health. Join the movement. Donate to support the Foundation for Women’s Health.
