I'm Almost There: Help Brittany Achieve Her Dream!

Hey, my name is Brittany! I'm a school counselor and a New Orleans native. I received my BS in Family and Consumer Science from Nicholls State University in 2014 and my MA in School Guidance Counseling from New York University in 2019.
Due to a hiring freeze in New York, I had to move back home to Louisiana. After a few (painful) months of no callbacks, I finally landed a job at a high school located in New Orleans literally weeks before the pandemic hit. I loved my job, and I loved my counseling team. However, outside of our office, there were silos and a severe lack of communication between teams.
I contracted Covid-19 during my time there and spent 5 days in the hospital. The day after I was discharged I was required to return to work. My passion for helping my students as well as my commitment to my team gave me the strength to do so. I hadn’t fully recovered and the added stress from my chaotic workplace caused me to have additional health issues, more doctor visits, and more treatment plans.
I decided to take a step back and end my time there and began looking at other employment options. I quickly learned that I couldn’t obtain a school counselor's license in Louisiana because the state only accepts counseling degrees from specific accreditations...and NYU is accredited through an institution that Louisiana does not accept. I realized that to work in my desired field, I would have to relocate again.
A few weeks ago, I was offered a dream job in Oakland, California as a 12th-grade college and career counselor! These last few months have been tough financially. I live with my mom and help her with bills, but that has caused me to deplete my savings.
I am SO close to having my dream career which is to help students plan their futures after high school, understand the power of their voice, and recognize their worth. This opportunity would be a dream come true for me! I know that's a bit cliche but it's 100% true. The ONLY thing standing in my way is the finances to relocate to Cali.
