I LOVE YOU, BABY explores themes of identity, sexuality, mental health, and complex maternal love through the black lens. We hope this film provides comfort to those who have shared the same experiences of our main character -- and makes them feel less alone in the world.

The Story

this is a line from the film MOONLIGHT that rings in my head often.

moonlight was the very first time i saw myself on screen. i knew i had a story in me that was just as personal as that film is for its filmmakers, and i promised myself that i would never make said film.

that all changed when i began my journey of healing and growth. what began as a therapeutic exercise in journaling, transformed into the short film:

-- a story that depicts a young black man's struggle with identity, sexuality, and abuse explored in a series of vignettes.

i'm making this short, not just for me -- but for every black boy, teen, or man who suffers in the dark. hopefully with I LOVE YOU, BABY -- they'll too come to realize that they are not as alone as they once assumed.

each film brings on a sense of high anxiety and fear. which is a good sign. i am thrilled and excited to share this story with the world. it's time.
