This fund has been started to pay for my Shih Tzu, Romeo's 2 surguries which will SAVE HIS LIFE. Romeo got a hold of a toilet paper roll and ate it. The paper has caused an obstruction in his stomach constipating his digestive system. Romeo is only 12lbs and his stomach was 3 times its normal size, he has bone to bone contact in his spine causing nerve damage that immobileizes his back legs which decreases his chances for a bowel movement/poop it out. We dont have enough money for surgery and I can't bare to see him in such pain any longer. Every minute that goes by feels like an hour of him in pain and heartache for my family. Stomach surgery ranges from $2,000-3,000 and back surgery ranges from $5,000-$8,000 totaling anywhere from $7,000-11,000. I'm affraid that if I don't have the money together in the next 24 HOURS i'm going to have to put him down so he can be at peace. PLEASE HELP SAVE ROMEO'S LIFE.
UPDATE 1/17/17: Romeo is still a candidate for both stomach and back surgery. Romeo was hospitalized all day yesterday. He had a catherder that was feeding him IV fluids all day. Hydration is a key part of the process which will allow him to pass the paper that is still stuck in his stomach. Hydrating him isn't an easy task being that we have to hand feed/force hydrate him using a dropper. The bulk of the material clogging his stomach has made progress down his digetstive tract, however, he still hasn't had a bowel movement/pooped. Even after such progress he still isn't in the clear for not needing stomach surgery. In regaurds to his spine he has bone to bone contact causing nerve damage, if a disc in his back ruptures it can be LIFE THREATNING or PARALYZING. Stomach surgery ranges from $2,000-3,000 and back surgery ranges from $5,000-$8,000 totaling anywhere from $7,000-11,000.
UPDATE 1/23: Sorry for not updating sooner. Thanks to all of your support Romeo has had the best care! I have great news! He has made a few bowel movements thanks to outstanding care of our vets keeping him hydrated and properly medicated. The next X-ray will show if the paper has passed through his system entirely or not. If so stomach surgery will be avoided saving our estimated expenses $2,000-$3,000. (Not deducting hospitalization and vet fees.) That leaves us with his spine being the area of concern. He has made progress and is walking. However, it is extremely uncomfortable/painful for him to have a bowel movement, when he does his position isn't normal. When he walks he is hunched and unbalanced. His back legs often do a split. He is very fatigued after walking and wants to go right back to the cage to rest. When ever he is carried or touched he needs to be handled like fragile glass and entirely balanced. Since we took him to the vet, his 3 weeks of advised cage rest began. We're entering our 2nd week of picking him up to go to the bathroom and picking him up immediately after he is done to avoid any chance of rupturing a disc. He has needed constant 24 hour supervision between myself, family, and professionals. This has been a very testing time but thanks to the unconditional love and support from all of you Romeo is alive today!
