Hi, I'm Jen, single mum and full time parent carer for my son Rafferty 10.
About 10 years ago I wrote a children's rhyming story about Clubfoot 'My Funky Snowboard Journey ' The disabling condition Raffi was born with. I managed to fund, illustrate and self publish. I then created a girls version of the book too.
Unfortunately the last few years have been extremely difficult. I became a single mum over 5 years ago, just before lockdown, when Raffi was in the midst of getting diagnosed as Autistic. Since then, he was diagnosed as Autistic with a PDA profile, sensory processing disorder, severe anxiety, OCD and ARFID. And has been hospitalised twice in the last 18 months, once for 11 days.
Due to all of this I am his full time single parent carer and unable to work. Which means I'm struggling to find a way to fund my new books.
It is incredible difficult to break through to a publisher.
My books are written with love and lived experience of various disabilities and conditions, and designed to bring some hope, positivity and joy to those families experiencing similar situations.
But I need your help now to bring my books to life and in to the hands and hearts of the families and children they have been written for.
I need approximately £1000-1500 per book for illustrations, and £1000+ per book for initial printing costs.
Anything you can give will be very much appreciated and will help other children like Raffi know he is not alone, that it's ok to be different and there is always hope.
My next book is all about ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder), which Raffi was diagnosed with in May 24.
I will load a few quotes from the book shortly, when I get the first illustrations through.
But it is approx 30 pages, a positive rhyming story about a little boy, a dinosaur and a journey with food.
The next three books are underway, and will follow similar themes, including PDA, OCD & Anxiety.
My aim, is to print in the UK too, as I have so far.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart, and from Rafferty's, he is all my inspiration.
