Hi!
We are two sisters, Ria (12) and Amani (10) who live in San Francisco, CA. Every summer, we visit India to spend time with our grandparents. We usually visit family and travel to different places in India, but this summer we had an experience that inspired us and changed our perspectives forever.
This summer, we were fortunate to visit a rural school, Rajkiya Vidyalaya, in India. At this school, we met many children, some of them our age, who walk several miles to school and have to sit on the floor because the school cannot afford to provide furniture in every classroom. Their positive attitude really showed us how much they value learning and how motivated they are to get an education.
While we were visiting the school, we met Maya, a 10 year old girl who walks five miles each way to school. Maya is a straight 'A' student and more importantly, she is the first girl in her family to go to school past third grade. We truly believe that motivated and determined kids like Maya deserve so much more.
Visiting Rajkiya Vidyalaya reminded us of how fortunate we are to live the way we do. We realized how drastically different it is from our school in San Francisco and lacks so many resources we take for granted- like clean drinking water, classroom furniture, books and computers.
We would like to do whatever we can to help these kids succeed and fulfill their dreams. Our goal to is to raise $5,000 to purchase the following for the school:
80 Desks with Chairs
1 Water Filtration System
1 Solar Submersible Pump for Water
5 Solar Panels for Water Pump
10 Computers for Classrooms
12 Blackboards
20 Bookshelves for Library
100 Books for Library
We are extremely grateful for any support you can provide. It will help children like Maya achieve their goals and aspirations and put a smile on their faces.
