The Illawarra Mutual Aid Fund has been established as a part of the solidarity, care and support efforts being organised across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven. This fundraiser aims to grow the Illawarra Mutual Aid fund.
The Covid-19 crisis and its broader impacts have intensified existing hardships and created new ones. Many of us have already lost our jobs, have been excluded from eligibility for Centrelink, face housing stress, eviction and further difficulties in getting through daily life - whether that be affording food, bills, medicines and so on. Mutual aid and solidarity have already helped us address some of these issues, the mutual aid fund is one further measure to assist when money is needed.

Who can draw on the Illawarra Mutual Aid Fund? How?
The fund can be drawn upon by people in need of financial assistance in one-off situations (not as an ongoing financial supplement). These situations might include, but are not limited to, paying rent, bills, groceries, meds, fuel, start-up money after an extended hospitalisation or after being incarcerated, and so on.
Individuals will not have to pay back money drawn from the fund. However, if they are able to contribute back to the fund once their period of economic stress has passed, that would be great, as it will refill the pool from which others can draw.
The general pool of funds can be drawn on by anyone in economic hardship. Please write to [email redacted] to make a request for financial assistance. Requests will be dealt with privately and on a case-by-case basis.
