Help Us Bring Esra’s Story to Life

Our short film, "I'll Be There," tells the powerful story of Esra, a recovering addict in her early twenties. After a Narcotics Anonymous meeting, a friend begs Esra to supply her drugs. After she refuses, her friend lashes out with a cutting insult that reaches her deepest insecurities. Esra spirals and returns to her childhood home, where she is forced to confront painful memories and the lingering impact of her trauma.

We (Ameena Sawan and Natalie Vrobel) co-wrote this film with the hope of shedding light on the raw and often unspoken truths about healing. Through Esra’s journey, we aim to portray the emotional challenges and the courage it takes to break free from the grip of the past. Our message is clear: the longer we delay the healing process, the longer we suffer.

This project represents the culmination of our journey at Cleveland State University's Film and Media Arts School. "I'll Be There" is our capstone project—one that we are deeply passionate about and proud to bring to life.

This film pushes beyond anything we've created before, with a setting and tone that challenge us creatively and professionally. However, to achieve the level of quality and storytelling this project deserves, we need your help.
