IKE Surfboards documentary "24 Cota"

John Eichert made custom surfboards for folks in the Santa Barbara and the broader 805 area. Now in his eighties, John has received recent praise in two books written by noteworthy surfboard shapers, and will be the subject of an upcoming magazine article.

This documentary started in late 2019 with a phone call. In truth, I did not know my uncle very well at that time, nor did I have much understanding of the evolution of surfboard and fin design, much less how to make a film. After a lot of research and work, as well as the delay of a pandemic, the final edit was completed in 2024 and premiered at the historic Lobero Theatre as part of the Santa Barbara Surf Film Festival. I have left this page up in case fans of IKE Surfboards want to help reimburse me for production costs, which included hiring a professionals, procuring equipment, traveling, and paying licensing fees for music and film clips.
