Ignite Spence's Light: Rally for his tomorrows.

Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and compassionate strangers,

We're reaching out on behalf of a young man whose light shines brighter than most - Spence Alger. At just 21 years old, Spence has always been an example of positivity, strength, and a zest for life that has inspired all who know him. He's the one who brings laughter to a quiet room, the one who encourages others when they're down, the one whose radiant spirit spreads warmth and love.

On the evening of 7/17/23, Spence's life took an unexpected turn. He was involved in a serious motorcycle accident when another car on the road aggressively pulled in front of Spence, causing him to ditch the bike. Unfortunately, the other vehicle fled the scene. The accident left Spence with a severed spinal cord, paralyzed from the chest down.

But if there's one thing we know about Spence, it's his incredible "I can do it" spirit. On his second day in the ICU, still on the ventilator, Spence was beginning to grasp the seriousness of his injuries. Unable to speak, he was communicating via whiteboard notes and after telling his family "I love you", he wrote out "I will win. I will walk again."

As Spence looks ahead at the road to recovery, we have no doubt that he'll meet every twist and turn with courage, determination, and positivity.

His life will undoubtedly look different moving forward, but Spence's parents want to ensure that he has the resources he needs to navigate this new normal, far into the future that we are so thankful he will have. While there's much to navigate in the immediate future, Chip and Nicole want to make sure Spence has what he needs to live a full life, even after they're gone.

Spence will need modifications to his home and car to facilitate accessibility, increased travel costs, and he'll need assistance for basic day-to-day activities. The things that we take for granted in our everyday life, like dusting, hanging pictures, changing a lightbulb, shoveling snow, mowing the lawn, and cleaning in tight places, he'll need assistance with. The equipment that he'll need will change as he ages, and we want to be sure he's not strained to maintain a good quality of life.

This is where we all can play a role in Spence's recovery. By contributing to this fund, we can ease the financial burden that comes with such life-altering changes and his parents, Chip & Nicole, rest easier, knowing that Spence has a fund to use to take care of himself, even after they're gone. More than that, we can show Spence that he's not alone on this journey - that he has a community rallying behind him, ready to lend a hand when needed.

In the immediate term, donations can help with home modifications for the Alger family. Spence's discharge date is set for October and it's a race against the clock to make sure that he comes home to an accessible space. Spence has been blessed to be able to rehab at Craig Hospital - a perfectly accessible environment where hope shine's bright. While coming home is sure to be mentally tough, an accessible space where he can continue to work towards independence can help to fuel Spence's unwavering motivation.

Every donation, no matter how small, will bring Spence one step closer to regaining independence and continuing to inspire those around him. We're asking for your help to fuel Spence's recovery and ensure he has the support he needs to shine his light even in the face of adversity.

Thank you for considering a donation. Please share Spence's story - his resilience is a testament to the human spirit, and his journey has only just begun.
